This task is labeled cooking assistant because, at this age, your child is not quite ready to handle using a stove, and they require supervision while using sharp utensils. Usually, it’s best to start with a steak knife as it’s sharp but smaller, and they can handle it without too much of a safety concern. It’s important for you as a parent to evaluate your child’s maturity level before allowing them to use sharp utensils. It is equally important to consider their physical ability at this point; they can use their carrot peeler, they can use the cheese cutter, they can use the more significant, and all of those things are very helpful in the kitchen always make sure that they have supervision while using these tools.

It does take some planning to utilize their assistance, but this becomes a super helpful task if you use it correctly. It is also vital to pre-talk precisely your expectations and what they will be doing. There are several recipes Where you can utilize there are help. You can make tacos and have them help you grate cheese, chop up lettuce, and use kitchen shears to chop up green onions quickly. Also, you can try their hand at slicing tomatoes. Specific knives are made for tomatoes, but we have found that steak knives work well. Another recipe we have used is on spaghetti night. We let them slice the French bread, spread the butter, and shake garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and parmesan cheese. Then they handed it off; then we popped it in the oven. They can also delve into the world of raw vegetables and make all kinds of different salad recipes. This is very exciting, and it keeps you eating salads each day. The only caveat to making salads is the problem with how hard the carrots are to chop. We have gotten around this issue by using the grater and just grating the carrots for salads. It works well, and we can use many carrots in our recipes.

They can also use the toaster and the microwave without a problem. You will need to discuss not putting metal in the microwave and not sticking utensils in the toaster.
