I like to clean. It does good for my soul. It changes a lousy mood by brightening my environment, and it makes my good attitude even better. Who knew I would have to stop in the middle of final edits on the TASK LIST LIBRARY for WORK IN A SNAP KIDS!

BUT I did! The task that stopped me in my tracks was cleaning the oven. Not the toilet, not scooping dog poop, not cleaning the blinds. It was the oven. In a phrase, “It does NOT bless me!”  I don’t know if it is the chemicals or the smell, but I don’t enjoy cleaning the oven. I am glad it will be over, and I like it when it is done.

Enter one of my most favorite movies, Pollyanna. It is an older Disney flick about an orphan girl who goes to live with her very uptight aunt. In the story, whenever the characters around her face adversity, she encourages them to play the Glad Game. She retells a story about when she was younger. She and her parents were missionaries in a foreign country. She had received a box with crutches inside. She was expecting the contents to be a doll. Her father encouraged her to play the Glad Game, where they were glad they didn’t need to use those crutches. It is all about looking at the circumstances and finding something to be glad about.

I find myself having to play the Glad Game when cleaning the oven. I am glad I have an oven. I am glad it works. I am glad we have food to put in it. And most of all, I am glad when that particular chore is done!
