There are so many kinds of yard equipment on the market. Just when we think we know how to work one, a slightly different model is manufactured. We seem to go through weed eaters more than any other yard tool. So, we have tried several different types. We return to the gas-powered ones because they seem to have more horsepower and last a little longer. They don’t use much gas, but a lot of them require an additive that you will need to plan to purchase.

Make it a habit always to have eye protection readily available when using any Garage or yard tools. Just a speck of dirt flying at high speed can ruin your eyesight. Also, wearing jeans or other heavy-duty pants is a good idea.

You will need to help your child understand how the weed eater operates. It does take some time to figure out how to wind the string trimmer line. Plan on lots of time to learn this skill, and it will hey off in the long run.

If you have already taught your child how to pull weeds and identify the plants that are the ones to keep, they will be able to preserve those plants while using the weed eater. The hardest part about this task is the physical strength needed to hold the weed eater in a specific position for long periods. We had several children that could do yard work simultaneously so that we could divide up the tasks. If you are helping your child, trading off the bigger jobs might be helpful. If you intend for them to do this job independently, depending on the size of your yard, it might be wise to plan that this task and the rest of the yard work will take a while to complete.
