This task is a follow-up to changing light bulbs. It can coincide. It is best to have a ladder so your child can be at eye level with the light fixture. Show them how to unscrew the fixture stays. Have them take all the removable glass parts and put them in the dishwasher on a gentle cycle. This does require moving the ladder to several rooms to obtain the glass parts. Dampen paper towels with Windex and carefully wipe around the light fixtures. Be prepared to use several paper towels as dirt does collect around light fixtures.

Check and replace any light bulbs that are burnt out.

After the glass parts are finished in the dishwasher, ensure they are dried well. Then take them one by one and put them back on the light fixture. This is quite an easy task. They can even get into an Xbox game while waiting on the dishwasher to finish.
