This task should be on everyone’s spring cleaning list. It does take some hard work and requires some extra time. But it always feels good to get things clean.

WARM WEATHER VERSION:

Prepare for this task by spraying off a back deck or driveway. You don’t need to get it pristine, but you need a clean surface to wash your blinds. Take down one window blind at a time. Label the top inside the blind and inside the blind holder with a letter of the alphabet. This way, you can match them up when you bring them inside.

One at a time lay the blind flat on the surface. Spray it off with water. With a damp cloth, apply soap and scrub. Rince the blind well with water. It does help to have a fence or the edge of a deck to hang the blind to dry. But, it is not necessary. Most blinds dry within a few minutes. You can also take an old towel and dry the blinds as you go along. Replace the blinds being careful two have the cords put back in the right place.

COLD WEATHER VERSION:

Take down one window blind at a time. Label the top inside the blind and the inside of the blind holder with a letter of the alphabet. This way, you can match them up when you bring them inside.

One at a time, take the blinds to a bathtub and put them inside the tub. Spray down the blinds with warm water. Wet a rag and add some Dawn liquid soap. Wash the blinds on the back side and the front. Rinse the blinds, and try them with a clean old towel. Replace the blinds being careful two have the cords put back in the right place.

This task lends itself to a teamwork project. You could assign a younger child to help clean the windows while the blinds are being washed. If your child is solo on this task, consider assigning only a few at a time or allowing them a reasonable amount of time to complete the job.
