There is not a Child Size Swiffer/damp mop listed here as in the SWEEP FLOOR task, mainly because the Swiffer is so light, and your child will not have to manipulate the dustpan at the same time. That being said, feel free to trim or change out the sticks.

GAME: Marker Mopping- A fun activity you can play is to get out a piece of paper, a piece of cardboard to protect the table, and a wide marker. Draw a square on the paper about 1/4 of the size of the paper. (If you want to get fancy, you can draw the layout of your kitchen and then section it off into 1/4 parts.)  Give them the marker and show them that the damp mop has a direction (either side to side or back and forth). Then explain that they will need to be careful not to miss any spots on the paper, keeping it going in one direction. You can even take turns doing this so they can see how you do it. Now you have a concrete example. You can use phrases like “We damp mop the floor just like we did with the marker on the paper.”

You can choose to use the Damp Mop after or instead of sweeping. It depends on the state of the floor. You will need to attach the wet pads with younger preschoolers. But let them help do a couple of the corners each time because they will quickly get the hang of it.

Then help them figure out a piece of the floor to damp mop. Depending on the state of the floor, you will want to change out the pads as they get dirty.
